Overview

RTI's Advanced Methods Development (AMD) Program within the Center for Public Health Methods has an opening for a GeospatialQuantitative Research Analystwith demonstrated experience in analysis and visualization of public health data. AMD conducts innovative public health research as well as program and policy evaluation using a diverse set of approaches, including Bayesian statistics, microsimulation, spatial epidemiology, and economic approaches. In addition, AMD performs pioneering social determinants of health (SDOH) research and develops dashboards for data visualization.

 

The position offers significant professional development opportunities at a leading research organization with nationally recognized experience in public health research and program evaluation. Analysts in AMD perform a wide range of tasks, including, but not limited to, spatial- and aspatial statistical analyses, interactive dashboard development, data management, data visualization, SDOH measure development, and contributing to reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.

 

 

This position can be remote as a teleworker in the US, or based in one of our US office locations.

 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities to include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Implement statistical, epidemiological, geospatial- and spatio-temporal analyses.
  • Communicate results through R Shiny dashboards, R Markdown documents, presentations, reports, and data visualizations for clients, internal staff, scientific journals, and other publications.
  • Contribute to day-to-day development and management of R Shiny dashboards, including bug fixes and new feature development.
  • Manage large, spatial and aspatial datasets and compile databases by combining information from one or more sources using R, Python, SQL, Stata, or SAS.
  • Write statistical programs and conduct analyses evaluating public health data and policies using R, Python, Stata, or SAS.
  • Review the geographic, public health, economics, communications, and social science literatures to contextualize research findings and maintain awareness of current best practices and advances in research areas.
  • Work independently to efficiently manage multiple and overlapping timelines and deliverables.
  • Manage tasks for multiple project directors simultaneously.
  • Train junior staff and participate in internal staff development.
  • Contribute to the writing of proposals and identify new ways to enhance or expand existing research areas.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience or a PhD with a minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Degree in Geography, Data Analytics, Data Science, Public Health, Health Policy and Management, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Psychology, Sociology, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge and understanding of spatial data management and analysis functions is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing statistical analysis using software such as R, Python, Stata, and/or SAS.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing spatial statistical analysis using software such as R, Python, Stata, and/or SAS. A code sample will be requested prior to interviews.
  • Demonstrated interest in public health research.
  • Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for visa employment status.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Coursework completed in one or more of the following: Epidemiology, Spatial Epidemiology, Applied Data Analysis, Statistics, Econometrics, Empirical Economics, Biostatistics, Health Policy Analysis, Health Economics, Quantitative Psychology or Sociology.
  • Experience using git for shared version control and collaboration.
  • An analytical mindset for creative problem solving.
  • Experience with interactive data visualization methods.
  • Experience working with complex survey datasets (especially population-based datasets such as the BRFSS, CPS, YRBS, NSDUH, and NHIS) or administrative data (such as medical claims or electronic medical records).
  • Experience creating data visualizations and static or interactive data dashboards using R Shiny, GIS software, Power BI, and/or Tableau.
  • Proficiency using R tools and packages including (but not limited to) R Markdown, tidyverse, leaflet, and others to create interactive visualizations, tables, maps, dashboards, etc.
  • Advanced statistical software programming experience in R, Python, Stata, and/or SAS.
