Overview
Cobb EMC is currently recruiting for a Metering Services & Testing Technician to install, test, calibrate, and maintain meters and related equipment. To install, test, and troubleshoot capacitor bank remote disconnect controls.

Responsibilities
Major Responsibilities:
NOTE: The following are major responsibilities of this position. They are not intended to cover each aspect of the position as the scope and duties may change or be temporarily altered based on the current business needs of the Corporation. The basic requirement of every position is to perform all tasks as assigned by the reporting authority.
Safety and Corporate Standards
  • Perform all work in a safe manner, encouraging others to do the same, and reporting unsafe situations, environments, and work procedures.

  • Complete all assigned work in an accurate, timely, and efficient manner.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area.
  • Advise immediate supervisor of maintenance needs on equipment
Testing, Service, Maintenance, and Calibration
  • Learn to test, service, maintain, and calibrate Form 2s, 2sRD, 2SE, 3s 120v, 3s 240v, 4s, 12s, and 12sRD meters, instruments transformers, and metering equipment.
  • Follow instructions to test and program all meters per ANSI standards using computer driven calibration equipment.
  • Thoroughly clean and repair meters with increasing skill and proficiency.
  • Maintain complete electronic records on meters that are tested and repaired on the meter testing software (Winboard)
  • Ensure all meters are properly sealed after testing.
  • Assist in the troubleshooting and repair of capacitor bank remote disconnect controls.
Installation
  • Train in the installation of instrument metering equipment.
  • Install wiring for CT and PT metering in accordance with directions.
  • Set and maintain single and three-phase metering above 200 Amps under direct supervision.
  • Wire sockets for single and three-phase company-mounted meters with increasing skill and proficiency.
  • Perform single-phase meter change outs with minimal supervision.
  • Assemble primary metering equipment.
  • Assist with field testing of meter installations, learning the theory and operation of field-testing equipment and the diagnostic tests performed.
  • Train in the use of manufacture metering programs to communicate with AMI Meters, to program, reset and run diagnostic testing on AMI meters.
  • Train in the use of communication technologies used to communicate with meters and metering equipment.
  • Assist in the installation of capacitor bank remote disconnect controls.
  • Maintain metering records in Smartsheet up to date.

Collective Responsibilities
  • Assist team in coordinating cross-training activities.
  • Assist team in researching future distribution devices.
  • Assist team with member facing education and community projects: e.g. science, technology, engineering, and mathematics events (STEM).
Tool and Equipment Operation and Maintenance
  • Maintain all tools and equipment in accordance with instructions and designated purpose.
  • Return all tools and equipment to proper place when not in use.
  • Ensure that assigned vehicle is stocked and maintained.
  • Take inventory of Meter Shop equipment.
  • Issue proper equipment to electricians and line crews, document equipment issued with direct supervision

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
Vocational/Technical school diploma in electronics, electrical engineering technology or related field; or a combination of relevant education & equivalent work experience.
Minimum one (1) year of experience with the installation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electric utility metering equipment, or equivalent in the electrical field. (e.g. capacitor banks, metering, or electrical work)
Basic working knowledge of electricity.
Ability to learn the different types of electrical meters and communication equipment.
Ability to learn to troubleshoot and investigate AMI and AMR issues.
SKILLS:
Ability to reason analytically and relate theoretical concepts to actual needs.
Adaptability to changing technical conditions, work environment, and equipment.
Strong working knowledge of personal computers and programming.
Possess valid Georgia driver's license.
Previous electrical and mechanical experience.
Ability to install, test, calibrate, program, and maintain Form 2s, 2sRD, 2SE, 3s 120v, 3s 240v, 4s, 12s, and 12sRD meters.

Medium work
Examples: Work performed involves standing and walking for extended periods of time; frequently identifying and interpreting color-coded wiring schematics; frequently lifting, installing, and removing meters and other equipment; occasionally working from a ladder and a bucket truck; working in COBB EMC right of way on capacitor bank control repairs/replacements.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Fieldwork with some work in Meter Shop or Apparatus Shop.
Occasional time in excess of normal workweek, as required.
