About the Role
The Lead Meter Technician reports to the Meter Services Supervisor at Bermex. This position will play a key role in assisting in the supervision of meter install technicians, ensuring that all meter installations meet quality and safety standards, and act as a liaison between the Meter Services Supervisor and Meter Installers. This position requires a high degree of communication and leadership skills, excellent time management, and exceptional flexibility day to day.
What You’ll Do
- Assist in Daily Operations
- Assist the supervisor in monitoring daily production, quality, and field related issues
- Provide assistance with water line breaks
- Assist with repairs, as needed
- Perform audits on work performed by meter installers to ensure quality and safety standards are being met
- Participate in weekly safety meetings
- Act as a liaison between the supervisor and meter installers to help facilitate team communication
- Perform scheduling and performance monitoring tasks as well as installing meters and performing validations
- Perform Meter Installations
- Electric meter types exchanged will be 1s, 2s, 2s 320, 12s, 25s, 9s,16s
- Identify hazards or unsafe conditions at meter sites and report accordingly
- Use handheld device to collect project specific data points, including, but not limited to, site inspection, address verification, old meter number, old meter reading, quality picture of old meter, quality picture of socket, thermal image and temperature scan of socket, new meter number, new meter module number, quality picture of new meter, socket GPS transformer number, transformer GPS, and comments if needed
- Use a route sheet (paper copy) to record all information as a backup if needed
- Responsible for ensuring assigned route is loaded on handheld and all tools needed for the job are located and kept in the work vehicle
- Responsible for understanding and following all job specific procedures
- Responsible for the timely completion of all routes assigned
- Responsible for turning in all keys, handhelds, and paper work as required
- Return all old meter inventory to appropriate areas at the end of each work day
- Enter all meter inventory prior to leaving the field in accordance with the inventory needed for the specific route being worked
- Provide Customer Communication & Ensure Safety
- Responsible for daily contact with customers and following all outlined customer service policies
- May provide general information about the meter services to customers, when applicable
- Use telephones, tablets, and/or computers to communicate
- Wear and ensure others are wearing all PPE during meter exchanges and advocate the importance of PPE during normal operations
- Ensure yourself and others are following all procedures outlined in the Field Services Manual to safely exchange electric meters, gas modules, or water meters on assigned routes. Each route is different and production expectations are given by the supervisor
- Drive a company vehicle appropriately marked for the specific project and ensure a safety walk around is performed prior to leaving for work route. Also complete a vehicle inspection as required and follow all vehicle policies and rules of the road
About You
Must haves:
- Education: None. Must be 18 years of age or older
- Experience: At least 1 year of experience in the installation of water, gas, and/or electric meters. 1 year of experience in underground plumbing related to water services. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Nice to haves:
- Education: High School Degree/GED
- Experience: 3 or more years of experience in the installation of water, gas, and/or electric meters and/or underground plumbing related to water services.

- Ability to multi-task and work independently and as a team
- Exceptional flexibility in daily routines and route scheduling
- Adequate time management skills to finish daily routes in a timely manner, efficiently finishing the job for that day
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable interacting with management and customers
- Ability to interact with unhappy or negative customers in a professional manner
- Excellent attention to detail for problem finding and solving
- Ability to walk long distances and prepare for weather conditions, accordingly
- Excellent knowledge of the geography and street locations in the community
This role would not be a good fit if:
- Don’t enjoy working independently
- Don't enjoy working in outdoor conditions
- Don't enjoy walking long distances
- Requires extensive walking and standing. Medium work requires the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and /or up to 20 pounds of force routinely, and/or up to 10 pounds of force continuously to move objects. Will need to walk up to 20 miles per day in all kinds of weather including rain, sleet, hail, and snow. Must be able to work in all temperatures with daily ranges of -10 up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Not flexible and do not enjoy adapting to your current work schedule or routine
- Don't have adequate planning and time management skills to finish a days work in a timely manner
Drug/Alcohol Testing
- Drug/alcohol testing is required
- Drug/Alcohol testing is required per Non-Regulatory requirements for employees working with Water, Electric, meters
- Drug/Alcohol testing is required per Federal DOT Regulations for employees working with Gas meters

Where We Work
Employees will begin their day at the local office where they will pick up their company vehicle, equipment, and assignments for the day.
Salary Range Disclaimer
The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Bermex INC. salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to customer contact terms, location, experience, and performance. Other rewards may include Paid Time Off, 401(k) retirement savings plan with company match, ESOP contributions, medical, dental, and vision insurance, and other region-specific benefits as eligible.
Salary Range Transparency
For applicants residing in GA, the salary for this role is from $22/hr
