Essential Duties:
Work with metallurgist to evaluate microstructure, mechanical properties, and material choice for gears and gearbox components to ensure conformance to customer and design specifications.
Write technical reports for gear failure analysis, supplier quality issues, process development, and process validation.
Develop documentation to improve effectiveness, efficiency, and overall workflows of metallurgical lab, pyrometry lab, and heat treat operations.
Review and rewrite work instructions, support metallurgist with CQI9 and TPG certification materials, help to support the creation of a metallurgical certification database with IT department.
Knowledge & Skills Summary:
- Desire, but not a requirement, previous experience in ferrous heat treating/manufacturing
- Statistical knowledge would be highly valuable
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access
- Ability to communicate well with suppliers, customers, and coworkers
- Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies
Education and Experience:
- Must have ability to read blueprints
- Enrolled in or possess BS degree in engineering or science field. Metallurgy, Materials Science and Engineering, or Materials Technology program preferred
