JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Registered Nurse— Psychiatric Crisis Services — CrisisCare Center (non-exempt)

(RN) Registered Nurses

Thursday - Saturday 7 AM - 7 PM (60 - 90 day contact)

Job Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) on the CrisisCare Center will work in a fast paced, psychiatric crisis-centered environment. The multidisciplinary team member is responsible for conducting nursing assessments of physical and Mental Health, following prescriber's orders, managing and administering medications and monitoring vital signs and stabilization. The RN will also be the charge nurse for the unit when working. As a team member the RN will provide a range of stabilization and medical support services and may participate in individualized crisis planning, discharge planning and care coordination of consumers. Demonstrates knowledge of co-occurring disorders and appropriate interventions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

1. Nursing Responsibilities: provide a range of stabilization and medical support services

o Provide an initial Health Screening if indicated for consumers to determine if there are physiological needs or medical conditions that require attention, monitoring, medical clearance and knowledge of current medications.

o Consult with prescriber on call to determine if consumers should be referred for medical clearance or admittance to a medical facility.

o Provide ongoing assessment of consumers' physical well-being, to include monitoring of vitals when needed, throughout their stay at CrisisCare Center.

o Provide thorough search of consumers and consumers' belongings according to program guidelines and agency policy. Consult with the prescriber on call to obtain orders

o Administer medication and medical services as directed by the prescriber.

o Perform any nursing function necessary to maintain consumer care.

o Manage pharmaceutical and medical supply inventory, along with emergency services kit and AED.

o Provide ongoing assessment of consumers' mental illness symptoms and consumers' response to interventions.

o Manage consumers' medical charts and accurate billing.

o Record and ensure timely and good quality documentation to reflect client treatment and outcomes.

o Assist in providing a safe environment for clients and staff; document any unusual incidents and make recommendations for enhanced safety.

o Under the direction of the prescriber, coordinate consumer transfers to a higher level of care in accordance with CrisisCare Center clinical pathways.

o Put into action consumer behavior management within program guidelines and agency policy.

2. Medication Administration

o Ensure compliance with psychopharmacologic and medical treatment policies and procedures and recommend revisions when needed. Policies include transcribing, administering, evaluating, and recording prescribed psychotropic and other medications

o Administer medication as prescriber-ordered, utilizing the five rights — right patient, right drug, right dose, right route and right time — for medication verification; verify dosage changes with prescriber orders.

o Educate patients on type of medication, usage, dose, and side effects.

o Evaluate and chart psychotropic medication effectiveness, complications and side effects.

o Adhere to agency risk management and emergency medication protocols.

o Adhere to agency medication services protocols.

o Adhere to agency injectable medication practices, administration, monitoring and documentation

o Provide individual, group, and family education on techniques to alleviate and manage behavioral symptoms not reduced by medication

o Help promote personal growth and development by assisting consumers in adapting to and coping with internal and external stresses.

3. Charge Nurse Responsibilities

o Ensure that all nursing staff and Mental Health techs comply with written policies and procedures as established by FCS

o Provide appropriate direction for client care to nursing staff and Mental Health tech during the assigned shift to include but not limited to:

· Shift assignments

· Providing directions during crisis situations

o Report any crisis situations to the Director of Nursing and the appropriate Supervisor on Duty during assigned shift

19. Utilize necessary knowledge and skills to perform the job, keeping current with new and best practices.

20. Attend and participate in required department and agency meetings and trainings. Qualifications:

The psychiatric nurse must be a licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Oklahoma and should have at least one year of work experience in an inpatient or outpatient psychiatric setting. Must have a strong commitment to the right and ability of each person with a severe and persistent mental illness to live in normal community residences; work in market jobs; and have access to helpful, adequate, competent, and continuous supports and services. Skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and respect for consumer rights and personal preferences in treatment are essential. Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver License and satisfactory driving record and use personal automobile to travel to locations other than primary office. Maintain availability for working non­traditional hours, such as evenings, weekends, holidays and overnight shifts as CrisisCare Center is a 24/7 facility. Must demonstrate knowledge of co-occurring disorders and appropriate interventions. Will maintain accurate billing and timely documentation. Must be able to lift and/or maneuver a minimum of 50 pounds. This position requires frequent repetitive motions to include but not limited to: bending, stooping, twisting, squatting, reaching, pulling and pushing. Must be able to stand and/or walk for a minimum of 8 hours at a time during each shift.
