The Early Head Start Program at Family and Children's Place of Louisville, KY is looking to hire a Mental Health Consultant to provide support for children and families experiencing Mental Health challenges. This human services position earns competitive pay of $55,000 and a sign-on bonus of $300 paid over the first year of employment. ABOUT HEAD START

Head Start programs prepare America's most vulnerable young children to succeed in school and in life beyond school. To achieve this, Head Start programs deliver services to children and families in core areas of early learning, health, and family well-being while engaging parents as partners every step of the way.

Head Start encompasses Head Start preschool programs, which primarily serve 3- and 4-year-old children, and Early Head Start programs for infants, toddlers, and pregnant women. Head Start services are delivered nationwide through 1,600 agencies which tailor the federal program to the local needs of families in their service area.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MENTAL HEALTH CONSULTANT

The Mental Health Consultant (MHC) is responsible for supporting the Early/Head Start program team in identifying and securing the needed support for children, families, and staff experiencing Mental Health challenges. He/she brings expertise to the program through observations, assessments, and consultative support. The MHC will provide a broad range of services, including early childhood Mental Health consultation in classrooms and through home visits; training and coaching staff; screening, assessment, referral services; promotion and marketing of group services; and parent training. The MHC will also collect data, maintain records, and support compliance in all facets of Head Start Performance Standards and State regulations. This position utilizes trauma-informed, culturally competent evidence-based practices and policies in its service delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A MENTAL HEALTH CONSULTANT

  • Master's Degree required, preferably in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field.
  • A clinical license is highly desirable
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct experience in Mental Health setting providing prevention services and/or Mental Health therapy to children and families.
  • Certification as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) is preferred and bilingual/bicultural English-Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to take a drug test, TB screening, and fingerprint screening upon hire
