General Summary
The Billing Specialist is a really important job! Because of this role, everyone in the company gets paid. Our Medical Billing Specialist manages all aspects of billing, insurance verifications and collections.
Essential Functions
- Utilizes the electronic health records system (Therapy Notes) to submit, process and post all claims and copayments
- Prepares paper claims
- Posting and Aging
- Follows up on unpaid claims
- Works with insurance companies to file and appeal claims
- Conducts insurance verifications with communication back to clients
- Reconciles payments
- Manages collections and payment plans
- Prepares and makes bank deposits
- Uploads insurance information to client’s charts
- Assists clinicians and patients with billing related questions/concerns
- Runs reports in the system, as requested
- Follows internal processes along with best practices.
- Completes all work accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintains HIPAA compliance – Observes strict patient confidentiality in all situations.
- Promptly communicates with Management if issues occur
- Attends companywide meetings (currently held via Zoom due to COVID). Meetings may be at held at any of the 3 offices.
- Assists with administrative projects and tasks to support the team
- Is professional, organized, positive, friendly, prompt and helpful
- Is proactive, multitasks and manages workload with minimal supervision
- All other duties as assigned by Management
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Experience working with Counseling codes, preferred but, not required
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience doing Medical Billing
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of insurance
- Understanding of medical terminology and billing codes
- Computer Savvy with fluency in Microsoft Office products

Physical Requirements:
- Sitting for extended periods
- Must have excellent hearing, vision (must see color and fine details) and hand-eye coordination

- Low to moderate noise level

- Background check required.
- Must have reliable transportation.
