Medication Technician

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Administer medications that have been ordered by the physician and that are listed on the Medication Administration Record, (MAR) verify that medications on MAR are correct by checking the original order against the transcribed order on the MAR. .

Administer routine controlled drugs and maintain accurate record of controlled drug inventory

Accurately record administration of all medications on MAR, discard medication that is refused or otherwise not given and record reason for omission on MAR

Check medication labels for accuracy and be aware of expiration dates- remove any expired medication for the medication cart and reorder from the pharmacy

Keep medication cart clean and orderly

Take vital signs as needed and observe residents for any change in condition – Immediately report any change in condition to licensed nurse

Reorder medications as needed from pharmacy

Report any medication errors to the charge nurse; refer any questions regarding medications to the charge nurse

Maintain approved infection control procedures

Maintain confidentiality of protected health information of residents

Answer phone and call lights

Assist residents with activities of daily living. May need to transfer, transport, weigh and assist residents as needed at mealtimes as well as throughout the day.

Must be certified by the state of NC to pass medications in an Adult Care Home. Must also be certified by the state as a Nursing Assistant I or II. Prior experience passing medications in an adult care home is preferred.

Position is part- time working every-other weekend, with the possibility of picking up shifts during the week
