Primary Tasks:
- Establish new patient chart information per guidelines and screen for patient eligibility.
- Update patient information on each visit, correcting information in RPMS and printing face sheet.
- Check patients in and out, answer telephone, take messages, call patient for follow-up, missed appointments, etc.
- Obtain proper consents from patients and hands out the Notice of Privacy Practices and Patient Rights and Responsibilities as required.
- Verify insurance eligibility and makes referrals to the Benefit Coordinator.
- Complete Medicare Payer form on every visit for all Medicare patients.
- Educate patients about health insurance; tribal membership/CDIB cards, Affordable Care Act, and VA benefit options.
- Follow policy and procedures for scanning documents in Vista Imaging to keep errors to a minimum.
- Maintain accurate records for patient insurance log sheet for monthly auditing.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Required Education, Skills and Experience:
MINIMUM
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to communicate effectively in person or by telephone with the public, other departments and members of the medical staff.
- Computer knowledge with typing accuracy at 35 wpm
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Professional communication skills that would meet amazing guest service standards.
- Previous experience verifying and sequencing Medicare, Medicaid and Private Insurance
- Knowledge of HIPAA and the importance of confidentiality
- One-year medical office experience
