The purpose of this position is to support physicians by entering clinical documentation on their behalf. Medical scribes accompany one physician at a time and directly observe that physician’s encounters with patients. Scribes accurately document clinical information and events that occur during a patient visit. Medical scribes also assist the physician to spend more time directly engaged with his or her patients.
- Accurate, timely documentation of patient encounters in SRS, including but not limited to, documentation of patient history, physical exams, diagnostic findings, lab and test results, problem lists, allergies, medications, diagnoses, progress notes, after visit summaries/ patient education, prescriptions and referrals.
- A Medical Scribe may not directly assist with patient care while functioning in the role of a scribe.
- Compliance with all clinical policies relating to confidentiality and professional behavior.
- Completion of training required by all new clinic employees.
- Excellent job attendance
- Prior experience with medical transcription or previous scribe experience preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to learn and apply new medical terminology on the job
- Must have excellent listening skills, including the ability to carefully and accurately listen to complex medical information and summarize in a clear, complete and concise fashion. Strong verbal communication skills to convey information through oral report.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to move quickly and efficiently in the workspace.
- Ability to spell, use spellchecker, edit written text and work proficiently in Microsoft Word.
- Demonstrated keyboard proficiency (approximately 40-50 wpm).
- Ability to operate a personal computer and use relevant computer applications.
- Ability to work in a busy environment which involves HIPPA protected medical information and multiple interruptions.
- Must have excellent English composition skills and the ability to write routine reports and correspondence with proficiency in typing, spelling, punctuation and grammar
- Continuous standing during shift, repetitive typing, and ability to push and maneuver a portable computer station.
