BD is one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world. Advancing the world of health™ is our Purpose, and it’s no small feat. It takes the imagination and passion of all of us—from design and engineering to the manufacturing and marketing of our billions of MedTech products per year—to look at the impossible and find transformative solutions that turn dreams into possibilities.

We believe that the human element, across our global teams, is what allows us to continually evolve. Join us and discover an environment in which you’ll be supported to learn, grow and become your best self. Become a maker of possible with us.

In surgery our products empower providers to reduce the incidence of surgical complications, improve patients’ experiences and lower the total cost of surgical care.

About the role:

This role provides product and field scientific support to Medical Affairs, Sales, Marketing, and Managed Markets by applying academic credentials, clinical knowledge, and scientific expertise in Infection Prevention to connect with healthcare providers, academic researchers, and organizations. These relationships ensure that key opinion leaders and organizations have access to relevant scientific information, and that insights captured externally will be communicated to key cross-functional partners internally. The MSL should have an in-depth understanding of Infection Prevention, the surgical setting, disease state awareness, the current/future treatment landscape, and ongoing clinical trials/research.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain credible peer-to-peer scientific relationships with national/regional key opinion leaders (KOLs) and customers.

  • Interact with various customer segments via one-on-one interactions, small group discussions, formulary review committees, and educational symposium presentations.

  • Attend assigned scientific and medical congresses to gather information relevant to the organization’s scientific platforms and report this information to internal partners during debrief meetings.

  • Assist in facilitating KOL involvement in national, regional, and local educational forums including advisory boards, investigator meetings, educational symposia, and sponsored promotional programs.

  • Assist in the identification of investigators and sites for company-sponsored clinical trials.

  • Maintain a thorough and detailed working knowledge of the organization and its products, current scientific research, and publications.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required (RN, NP, PA with clinical experience required) Advanced degree preferred.

  • 3-5 years of field based MSL experience and/or 3-5 years of work experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry required.

  • Knowledge of the US Healthcare System and the pharmaceutical/medical device industry, including relevant laws (OIG), regulations (FDA), and ethical standards (ACCME, PhRMA) which apply to interactions with HCPs, payers, and industry representatives.

  • Knowledge of clinical trial design and process.

  • Understands the US healthcare system, medical practice, and clinical decision making regarding intraoperative care for the patient undergoing surgery.

  • Demonstrates ability to develop trust and integrity with peers, and others within the US and Worldwide BD Medical Affairs and Commercial organizations.

  • Travel: ~65% travel, including overnight and weekend stays.
