Summary

The Medical Research Specialist performs technical laboratory work. The Specialist will work with Borrelia burgdorferi spirochete bacteria and their tick vector, Ixodes scapularis, as well as animals. The Specialist performs specialized assays such as Luminex-based diagnostic tests, PCR and RT-PCR. This position performs routine processes such as tissue culture, bacterial growth and counting. The Specialist assists senior personnel where needed. The Specialist keeps accurate records of experiments, assists with shipping of dangerous goods, and trains incoming students and personnel in various laboratory techniques.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a biological sciences field• 3 years of research experience in molecular biology, immunology and/or other microbiology-related disciplinesOR • High School Diploma/Equivalent• 9 years of research experience in molecular biology, immunology and/or other microbiology-related disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent written and oral communication skills• Experience and training for administering controlled substances.• Experience with rodent handling.• Experience with IATA/DOT Shipping of Dangerous Goods.• Experience with cytometric bead-based assays
