We're currently seeking a Medical Records Specialist for our business office, located in Leawood, KS. Our Medical Records Specialists retain, scan and process all medical record information, ensuring the data integrity, and privacy, is maintained.

Position Summary
Retains, scans, and processes all medical record information (whether electronic or paper)
maintained by the organization, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy of Health
Information in accordance with HIPAA regulations and the policies and procedures of Ascentis Healthcare.
Essential Functions:
Perform a variety of tasks in support of daily operations, including, but not limited to:
• Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
• Maintain Medical Records according to practice protocols in a systematic, organized manner.
• Assist in movement of physical and electronic Medical Records to proper locations.
• File/scan reports and other outside documentation into paper and/or electronic Medical Records in a timely manner ensuring accessibility and accuracy of retained information.
• Release medical information after the appropriate signed authorization is obtained and information is reviewed by the provider.
• Assist in storing, purging, and retrieving inactive records according to practice protocols.
• Communicates effectively and respectfully with all staff, business associates, and vendors.
• Assist in the auditing of Medical Records to assure that all are complete and accurate for quality assurance.
• Maintain confidentiality at all times with regard to all patient health information.
• Attend department and company meetings, as required.
• Assist in maintaining all office equipment.
• Follow established company policy and procedures.
• Maintains a safe and clean work environment
• Maintains a cooperative relationship within and among teams by communicating information and participating in team problem-solving methods.
• Maintain knowledge of and comply with established policies and procedures.
• Participates in department and clinic meetings as well as professional development activities.
• Understands HIPAA regulations and maintains the strictest confidentiality at all times. Has read and understands the company's HIPAA Privacy Policy.
• Complies with all regulatory requirements including OSHA, HIPAA, Ascentist Policies and Procedures and Ascentist Employee Handbook.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned/necessary.
Qualifications
Education, Experience & Certifications
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Must possess a minimum of one year of Medical Records/health information experience
• Demonstrates proven ability to understand medical terminology
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Demonstrates proven verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Proven record in reliability and dependability
• Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks
• Demonstrates effective problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with providers, patients, and team members.

• Demonstrates proficiency using computer, software, and Internet Technologies (Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Windows)
• Demonstrates proficient mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and ability to compute rate, ratio and percentage and report information using bar graphs
• Demonstrated ability to solve practical problems and effectively manage the issue with a variety of concrete variables and only limited standardization
• Demonstrates understanding of and experience using an electronic medical record (EMR) systems
• Demonstrated ability to effectively use general office equipment including phones, fax machines, copiers, and other similar office technology on a regular basis
• Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail in an ever-changing environment.
• Ability to maintain a positive, courteous demeanor with all patients and colleagues
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in performance of essential functions
• Demonstrated ability to speak, read, write, and understand English, as the primary language of patients calling and requesting information and/or services from the organization.
• Ability to pass a background check
• Understanding of and ability to comply with all regulatory requirements including OSHA, HIPAA, Ascentist Policies and Procedures and Ascentist Employee Handbook
Desirable Qualifications
• Experience working in a clinical office environment
• Ability to speak and understand other languages.
