Works independently and as a team to complete a wide variety of tasks assigned specific to the Master Patient Index.Job Duties
- Performs Double number verifications and merges for the entire Health system.
- Will identify corrective actions to decrease the number of duplicate medical record numbers created, including making recommendations for system enhancements to provide continuing efficiencies.
- If paper records exist all information will be combined into the keep number.
- Assigns new medical record numbers in Epic and inputs patient demographic information when necessary.
- Verifies merges in both the Geisinger and KeyHIE MPI’s.
- Marks potential duplicates as Known Non-Duplicate in epic when determined patients are not the same.
- Marks potential duplicates as unique in the Geisinger and KeyHIE MPI’s when determined patients are not the same.
- Update epic identity with correct MRN numbers when necessary.
- Retrieves paper records, and microfilm from the file area when needed.
- Enters deceased dates for system when appropriate.
- Proficiency with MPI software to research patient identity and history as well as merging.
- Proficiency with Epic, Passport, and Chart Locator.
- Participates in system wide Duplicate Medical Record Number workgroup.
- Coordinates with multiple campuses regarding correction of duplicate medical record numbers affecting paper or microfilm.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned by emergency or other operational reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform.

Additional Responsibilities:
1. Maintains a good working knowledge of the systems used: Epic, MatchMetrix, Passport, and Chart Desk to complete daily functions, including making recommendations for system enhancements to provide continuing efficiencies.
2. Perform permanent MRN assignments, MRN look-ups and data entry as necessary.
3. Perform Duplicate MRN merges and verifications for the Geisinger Health System.
4. Attend weekly Dup Group meetings to help determine if Medical Records are for the same person or different. This requires making updates in the Master Patient Index and marking records unique when necessary.
5. Update epic identity with correct MRN numbers when necessary.
6. Update epic known non-duplicates when necessary so twins/siblings do not show as potential duplicates. In the MPI these same accounts are marked unique.
7. Provides daily notifications to downstream systems with merged duplicate information so those systems can be corrected as well.
8. Ensures duplicates with unresulted lab/rad are processed timely.
