Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Description:

GardaWorld Federal Services (GWFS) will be supporting the U.S Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to reduce staffing shortages across the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) in order to increase access to care for Veterans. This includes on demand clinical and non-clinical services, to fill emergent staffing needs. The VHA predicts an annual need at medical facilities and community-based outpatient clinics, domiciliary (home) care, nursing homes and other sites of care.

Responsibilities:

· Perform routine laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, blood banking, and microbiology under the supervision of medical technologists or laboratory managers.

· Prepare specimens for analysis and ensure accurate labeling and documentation.

· Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.

· Analyze test results and report findings accurately and promptly to healthcare providers.

· Maintain quality control and assurance procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.

· Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.

· Assist in the training and supervision of laboratory assistants and other support staff.

· Keep abreast of advancements in laboratory technology and procedures through continuing education and professional development.

Requirements:

Successful completion of either:

A full-time training course of approximately a year's duration in a medical or clinical laboratory assistant (or technician) school that included instruction in chemistry, hematology, blood banking, and microbiology (including serology), and supervised laboratory practice incident to the diagnostic process and treatment of patients.

Or, one year of study that included at least 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or biological science.

Physical Demands: The physical demands listed below, though not fully inclusive, are that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The employee is frequently required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
