General Statement of Duties
This is an opportunity for the qualified candidate to supervise a high complexity laboratory at the Forsyth County Department of Public Health and meet the requirements of a technical supervisor in a high complexity lab. The Medical Laboratory Supervisor, working under the oversight of the Medical Laboratory Director and Medical Laboratory Manager, is responsible for performing a variety of routine and standardized Medical Laboratory tests using a variety of highly technical laboratory equipment. Responsibilities will also include long term and short-term planning, budget preparation and management, administrative and technical review of lab staff performance, budget preparation and management, quality assurance and proficiency testing, interpreting and responding to abnormal results, performing lab tests at all benches during personnel shortages, completing necessary reports and assuring compliance with CLIA requirements.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Some Thursday evening availability is required.

Considerable theoretical knowledge of the variety of laboratory procedures applicable to the area(s) of work.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Thorough knowledge of the field of medical technology.
Considerable knowledge of disease pathophysiology as it relates to laboratory testing.
General knowledge of the operation of Medical Laboratory equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot equipment and procedures.
Ability to interpret abnormal results.
Ability to supervise and conduct management functions.
Ability to use a variety of laboratory equipment to perform a range of tests.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Minimum Education and Experience
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in medical technology, chemistry, or biological science and three years of laboratory experience in the assigned area.
A four-year degree outside of the relevant academic field plus additional years of relevant experience may also be considered.
A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.
Valid driver's license required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Plans for new laboratory procedures, goals and objectives in response to new and existing medical service.
Reviews existing procedures and workflow and investigates alternative test methods and work processes.
Prepares and recommends the annual laboratory budget and monitors expenditures throughout the year.
Provides or arranges for on-the-job training for staff and submits requests for formal training.
Provides daily administrative and technical review of staff performance and production of the work area including all proficiency testing, quality control records and abnormal test results.
Prepares performance evaluations; makes recommendations to the supervisor on promotions, dismissals, and salary adjustments; and interviews applicants for vacant positions.
Performs testing at all benches during staff shortages.
Completes monthly statistical report on number of tests and percentage of positive results.
Performs related work as required.
