We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Laboratory department. This position is Part-Time Core, scheduled 30 hours per week and is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package -or- a 13% pay differential in lieu of benefits. Location: Adventist Health Columbia Gorge is located in The Dalles, Oregon. We work, live, and play in the scenic Columbia River Gorge, Oregon. Located 85 miles east of Portland in the majestic Columbia River Gorge, The Dalles features old-growth forests, rushing waterfalls, and year-round access to outdoor recreation, including downhill and cross-country skiing, world-class water sports, and miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. Responsibilities
Medical Laboratory Scientist: Conduct routine and complex laboratory tests (for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease), interpretation of test results, instrument operation, in addition to supporting clients as they access laboratory services. Oversees laboratory practices for given lab section such as, procedure documentation, quality assurance, quality control monitoring, instrument maintenance, competency and proficiency programs, staff training, and preparing for various certification, licensure, and accreditation processes. May over see MLT's and Clinical Laboratory Assistants.
Medical Laboratory Technician: Conduct routine and complex laboratory tests, interpretation of test results, instrument operation, in addition to supporting clients as they access laboratory services. Oversees laboratory practices for given lab section such as, procedure documentation, quality assurance, quality control monitoring, instrument maintenance, competency and proficiency programs, staff training, and preparing for various certification, licensure, and accreditation processes.
Qualifications
Medical Laboratory Scientist
Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or Medical technology from an accredited institution is preferred.
    Licensure/Certification:
  • Successful completion of the ASCP, AMT, AAB, or CLS accreditation program for Medical technology (MT/MLS).
    Experience:
  • Six months experience working in laboratory or equivalent environment preferred.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Ability to perform venipuncture and capillary collections appropriate for the age of the patient in a professional manner and with minimum discomfort.
  • Ability to perform standard laboratory analyses accurately according to published procedures and turnaround times.
  • Ability to validate results which includes, but is not limited to, recognizing questionable results, investigation of the cause(s) of questionable results and finally to take appropriate action regarding release of test result to customer.
  • Ability to communicate written and verbal information to customers regarding appropriate specimen collection, transport, and test methodology. Able to interpret test results. Able to handle client service issues at all levels appropriately, courteously and effectively with a customer focus.
  • Ability to interpret, initiate, and comply with regulatory guidelines as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking for problem solving.
  • Ability to multitask effectively and accurately in a stressful environment.
    Medical Laboratory Technician

Education:
  • Successful completion of the ASCP, AMT or CLS accreditation program for Medical Laboratory technician (MLT) plus an associate's degree in a physical, or biological or Medical Technician from an accredited institution is required,
    Or
  • Be a high school graduate or equivalent and have successfully completed an official military Medical Laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) is required.

Licensure/Certification:
  • Current CPR certification preferred.

Experience:
  • Six months experience working in laboratory or equivalent environment preferred.
