This Laboratory Courier position is for a 12:30 -9:00pm M-F shift in the Miami/South Florida area. Previous medical courier experience is preferred. Ability to drive at night is required. Must have clean driving record and be able to pass a background check and drugscreen prior to employment.

The Courier is responsible for driving courier vehicles for the purpose of transporting, picking up, and delivering specimens, reports and supplies to customers and business associates of Palm Beach Pathology. This position is also responsible for adhering to current Palm Beach Pathology policies and procedures and is required to be professional and a positive representation of the company while carrying out all duties.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

· Transports specimens, slides, supplies, reports and other materials from the laboratory to client offices, hospitals and other locations in a timely manner.

· Adheres to courier policies and procedures, including but not limited to safety, safe driving, handling biohazardous materials and compliance.

· Completes related paperwork including specimen logs, routing slips and vehicle inventory lists on a regular basis.

· Assists in investigations that pertain to their specific routes.

· Picks up, sorts and distributes items to / from assigned locations.

· Communicates any observed and important client information to supervisor.

· Keeps specimen tracking device charged and on during scheduled working hours.

· Ensures that the courier vehicle is maintained including, fueling, cleaning and reporting repair needs.

· Assists with coverage of other routes due to other staff absences or needs of the department

· Notifies supervisor of workload lulls. Utilizes workload lulls to assist co-workers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Knowledge of safe driving and vehicle maintenance practices.

· Knowledge of how to navigate efficiently.

· Knowledge of handling biohazard materials safely.

· Knowledge in handling bloodborne pathogens using universal precautions following PBP policies and procedures and adhering to all OSHA guidelines.

· Skilled in driving vehicle in all types of weather.

· Skilled in principles of customer service, scheduling and time management.

· Ability to interact courteously and communicate effectively with many different kinds of customers.

· Ability to work with minimal supervision and organize time well.

· Ability to handle critical pressure to ensure timely delivery of specimens or other materials.

Education/Experience

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Extensive knowledge of Miami and South Florida region.

· A minimum of 1 year experience that demonstrates the expertise necessary to handle a courier vehicle and customer service needs.

Work Environment:

· Laboratory environment and vehicle

· Handling hazardous material- Follow all general health and safety procedures contained in the Company Safety Manual to include small Quantity Generator of Hazardous Waste. Become familiar of your sites classification.

Physical Activities:

· Ability to tolerate sitting in a motor vehicle for extended periods of time.

· Requires sitting or standing for extended periods of time.

· Lifts and/or carries items weighing up to 20 pounds.

· Exposure to all types of weather.
