Performs technical laboratory functions including Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Immunology and Microbiology testing. Receives and processes specimens, examines specimens and records test results. Provides test result information to approved callers and alerts appropriate personnel to abnormal test results for immediate action.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
Education: Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent.
Licensure: Registered as MLT by a nationally recognized professional registry. Certification within 1 year of employment is recommended.
Experience: Clinical laboratory experience of at least six months is preferred. Must qualify as Testing Personnel for High Complexity Testing as defined by the Clinical Laboratories Improvement Act (CLIA).

Performs technical laboratory functions including Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Immunology and Microbiology testing. Receives and processes specimens, examines specimens and records test results. Provides test result information to approved callers and alerts appropriate personnel to abnormal test results for immediate action.
- Collects blood specimens by venipuncture and capillary puncture. Evaluates the suitability of the specimen for testing. Instruct outpatients in proper clean catch collection technique for urine specimens. Gives instructions for other collections according to established protocols.
- Performs a variety of routine testing procedures in Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis and Immunology. Reads gram stains and sets up cultures in microbiology.
- Transmits results of critical values, stats and timed tests to appropriate personnel in a timely manner. Verifies results of all tests before reporting.
- Performs quality control testing according to established procedures and takes appropriate action when results are outside expected range.
- Demonstrates technical proficiency by processing and accurately reporting CAP survey samples as unknowns on a rotating basis with other technical staff. Annually reviews the CAP surveys and Check Sample critique to keep knowledge current.
- Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
