Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Laboratory Technician I (MLT I) functions as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for the performance of clinical laboratory testing that pertains to patient care and diagnosis. This position performs routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, preventative maintenance, minor equipment repairs, inventory control, and statistical compilation. Will additionally participates in quality assurance, performance improvement, laboratory education, new employee training and proficiency testing when assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Required: Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technician studies, or a chemical, physical or biological science degree.
- Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles
- Will consider students graduating in the current semester with MLT degree
Certification:
Required: ASCP or equivalent required. Certification must be maintained without lapse during employment.
- If certification does lapse, job will be downgraded to Medical Laboratory Technician (non-certified) until certification is reinstated.
Experience:
Required: Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles.
Preferred: Previous clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Scientist within a clinical laboratory.
PHYSICIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Use written (verbal/visual) sources of information, e.g. read reports, procedural documentation, and reference materials.
- Use non-verbal visual sources of information, e.g. reference graphs, tables, charts.
- Use verbal auditory sources of information, e.g. interviews, group meetings, presentations
- Perform actives requiring sustained concentration, e.g. designing, accurate data entry, work planning, scheduling.
