Overview:
Location : Location: US-VA-Norfolk
Provides accurate interpretation and translation of critical medical information in direct service to physicians and/or other health care providers who are seeing patients who cannot speak or understand English, when specifically required by the provider.
Responsibilities: - Provides thorough, timely and accurate face-to-face and telephone Spanish interpretation for patients, families, faculty, and staff.
- Provides written language translation when necessary.
- Precisely and accurately interprets critical medical advice and information given by the provider into equivalent terminology in Spanish to the patient.
- Assists in translating medical text from English to Spanish; may translate patient education information as specifically requested.
- Establishes and maintains quality service and positive interaction with all patients, customers, visitors, health care providers, and clinical employees.
- Assists with patient follow-up as necessary, to include contacting patients with appointment reminders.
- Maintains strict patient confidentiality in accordance with EVMS policies and standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Full fluency in both English and Spanish.
- High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Must be a Certified Healthcare Interpreter from the CCHI (Certified Commission for Healthcare Interpreters) or Certified Medical Interpreter from the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters or become certified with 12 months.
