Job Title: Medical Insurance Underwriter
Location: Rockville Centre, NY
Schedule: Monday-Friday, with 1-2 times a week in-office
Hours: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Salary: $70,000 - $85,000 (Based on experience)
As a Medical Insurance Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in evaluating and assessing risks associated with Medical Insurance applications. This position requires expertise in handling Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) cases. The successful candidate should have 3-5 years of relevant industry experience and the ability to effectively work from home. This is a permanent, direct hire opportunity.
Responsibilities:
1. **Risk Assessment:**
- Evaluate Medical Insurance applications to determine the level of risk involved.
- Analyze medical histories, pre-existing conditions, and other relevant information to make informed underwriting decisions.
2. **Policy Review:**
- Review and analyze policy applications and documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary information for underwriting purposes.
3. **Communication:**
- Communicate with insurance agents, brokers, and clients to gather additional information or clarify details.
- Provide clear explanations of underwriting decisions to stakeholders.
4. **Compliance:**
- Ensure underwriting activities comply with industry regulations and company policies.
- Stay updated on changes in Medical Insurance regulations and guidelines.
5. **Documentation:**
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of underwriting decisions and related correspondence.
- Prepare reports summarizing underwriting activities and outcomes.
6. **Remote Work:**
- Demonstrate the ability to efficiently work from home, meeting productivity and quality standards.
- Attend in-office meetings as required (1-2 times a week).
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (preferred).
2. 3-5 years of experience in Medical Insurance underwriting.
3. Strong understanding of Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) processes.
4. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
5. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
6. Proficiency in relevant computer applications and underwriting software.
7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
8. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
9. Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance requirements.
