Job description

CORE believes the United States is a country founded by immigrants and refugees and the United States has a moral and legal obligation to provide protection to those seeking asylum. Additionally, welcoming and supporting asylum seekers can have several positive impacts on the country. It can support the integration of diverse communities, bring new talents and skills to the workforce, and promote a more inclusive and compassionate society. It also fulfills our international legal obligations as a signatory of the 1951 Refugee Convention. With various humanitarian and other crisis globally, particularly south of the US border, there are expectations that those seeking asylum will continue to arrive at the US-Mexico border and will need assistance and support.
CORE has worked on the US-Mexico border from 2016 in Tijuana, to 2022 in Del Rio, and today in Juarez/El Paso. These responses to acute needs have provided some operational insights, and CORE is now building emergency Response Teams to provide health and medical assessment and distribution of essential items to asylum seekers upon initial entry into the United States.
CORE is looking for Team Members with medical training and on-the-ground community engagement experience who can deploy to the US-Mexico border to participate in medical assessment and distribution of essential items.

Within Close Proximity to the US-Mexico Border. Including but not limited to:
San Diego, CA
Rio Grande Valley, Texas
El Paso, Texas
Eagle Pass, Texas
Yuma, Arizona

Responsibilities:
  • Medical & Health Response Team Member will:
  • Deploy to US-Mexico Border encounters as Response Team Member.
  • Provide health assessments to vulnerable populations:
  • Examine and evaluate individuals to determine necessary care, including assessment of blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature.
  • Provide individuals with BLS emergency care as needed
  • Obtain or assist in obtaining basic lab specimens for CLIA waived tests such as urine analysis, blood glucose measurement, and oral pharyngeal swabs
  • Document individuals' information, and condition
  • Maintain confidentiality and perform all care with respect for individual rights
  • Review and analyze health data to identify trends and other relevant health information
  • Support coordination with local government and established community organizations to ensure the proper delivery of goods and services to asylum seekers entering the US.
  • Support Response Team by adhering to CORE Standards of Safety and Security
  • Coordinate and collaborate with different internal stakeholders at CORE to learn about CORE's work on the border and ensure synergies and alignment of work
  • Liaise with CORE Procurement team on provisioning on needed goods for response operations.
  • Distribute relief items when necessary.
  • Draft immediate after-action reports on each deployment.
Scope and Travel:
  • Reporting and responsive to: Team Lead
  • Called upon in with short notice for deployments of 2-10 weeks as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Requirement of EMT or above
  • Clinical background required
  • CPR / First Aid Certified
  • Driver's License with no significant infractions in the last 5 years
Experience
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in healthcare
Skills & Competencies:
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Spanish; good communication skills; proven forward planning and strategic skills; strong public relations skills and network building; good training and facilitation skills; strong leadership skills in high-stress situations.
