Medical Coding Specialist-Hickory Behavioral Network
Direct Report to Chief Reimbursement Officer
Primary Purpose and Function:
The Medical Coding Specialist is an integral member of the corporate billing team and is primarily responsible for managing coding requirements, record tracking, requests.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Current RHIT, RHIA or CCS required
· Associates degree in medical coding preferred
· At least TWO (2) year of medical coding experience within an acute care hospital setting
· Must demonstrate a level of knowledge and understanding of ICD and CPT coding principles recommended by the American Health Information Management Association coding competencies, and as normally demonstrated by certification by the American Academy of Professional Coders
· An ability to learn quickly, multi-task, and utilize effective communication skills, including both telephone and in-person
· Ability to follow directives explicitly, adhere to facility policies, provide patient-driven customer service, and exercise time management skills
Primary Responsibilities:
· Codes all requested Inpatient acute care records using the most accurate and appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS, DRG assignment in accordance with coding guidelines.
· This position also requires assembling, analyzing, retrieving, and filing of medical records
· Experience in ICD10 and DRG optimization as well as and abstracting clinical information for billing preparation and statistical purpose
· Performs clinical auditing and data abstraction of patient records in support of contracted facility’s clinical process improvement and patient safety initiatives
· Reviews results of audits and identifies trends
· Coding medical diagnosis for billing purposes, submitting billing information as required
· Assist with implementation of record request processes and tracking, and communicating with admissions team, facility directors, and executive members.
Pay Band: Full Time- $40,000-$52,000
