Medical Assistant/Surgical Tech

Harney District Hospital is seeking a candidate to work dual departments; Medical Assistant and a Surgical Tech. This person will be working with our orthopedic program, assisting our Orthopedic Surgeon and Orthopedic Physician's Assistant. As a Medical Assistant, they will be preparing patients for examinations and updating patient records as needed. As a Surgical Tech, they will be assisting the Orthopedic Surgeon in surgical operations and in preparing the operating room for surgeries. This position will require adherence to two separate job descriptions and there will be two separate wages associated with this dual position. This position will be a full-time position. Required Skills and Abilities (Surgical Tech):

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, microbiology and the pathological processes. The knowledge and application of surgical principles, aseptic technique and typical equipment used in surgery. Knowledge of computer application software used in surgery and office setting. Knowledge of operative procedures, ability to operate sterilizers and equipment used in the surgery department. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Two years of experience as a CST in an acute care multi-disciplinary facility or Ambulatory Surgery Center within the past three years. Combined training and experience resulting in learning basic techniques required in performing CST duties with emphasis in general and laparoscopic surgery.

Education and Experience (Surgical Tech):

Must possess Basic Life Support (BLS), CST certification upon hire or completion of a training program for surgical technologists in the US military.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS: Five years prior experience.

Required Skills and Abilities (Medical Assistant):

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: General knowledge of English, grammar, spelling, data entry and retrieval, and computer applications software. General knowledge of mathematics, medical terminology and health. General knowledge of confidentiality concepts and requirements. Ability to communicate effectively with the healthcare professionals, public, customers, and staff.

Education and Experience (Medical Assistant):

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: Equivalent to a high school education.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES: Must obtain CCMA within 2 years.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: CCMA Certification or a minimum of 3 years medical office experience providing direct patient care. Knowledge of medical field, including general knowledge of medications and drug classifications.
