Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team in our Sterling Heights, MI medical office. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for assisting healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, in providing quality patient care. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate should have a thorough understanding of medical terminology and procedures, as well as a commitment to delivering exceptional patient experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Support:
- Perform vital signs, record medical histories, and update patient information accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Assist medical professionals during exams, procedures, and treatments, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Prepare examination rooms with necessary supplies and equipment, ensuring cleanliness and organization at all times.
- Collect and process specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
- Administer medications and vaccines as directed by healthcare professionals, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.
- Educate patients about medical conditions, procedures, and follow-up care instructions.
2. Administrative Duties:
- Greet and register patients, ensuring accurate completion of necessary forms and paperwork.
- Schedule appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic tests, coordinating with patients, healthcare professionals, and external facilities as required.
- Manage phone calls, triage inquiries, and route messages to appropriate personnel efficiently.
- Maintain patient records, including medical history, treatments, test results, and billing information, ensuring adherence to patient confidentiality guidelines and legal requirements.
- Process insurance claims, verify coverage, and collect necessary payments, utilizing EMR and billing systems.
3. Facility Support:
- Stock and maintain medical supplies, ensuring availability and cleanliness.
- Sterilize equipment and instruments, following proper infection control protocols.
- Assist with minor office procedures, wound care, and patient education materials.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure proper maintenance of medical equipment and instruments.
- Stay updated on current medical practices and technologies through continuous professional development and training.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a recognized Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification is highly desirable.
- Proven experience working as a Medical Assistant in a healthcare setting.
- Solid knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and infection control protocols.
- Proficient in using electronic medical records (EMR) and other healthcare software applications.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to remain calm and empathetic under pressure.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, while also functioning independently when necessary.
- Demonstrated ethical behavior and adherence to patient confidentiality guidelines.
