What you’ll do

 

The Medical Assistant (MA) and Front Desk Specialist is responsible for various tasks that assist in providing efficiencies for daily operations of the Center.  The position reports to the facility Director of Nursing.  Tasks performed involve limited patient care as well as a variety of other duties. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Under supervision of the Registered Nurse, assist with the Pain injection patients in OR1 with the following activities: 

  • Escort patient to and from OR1 

  • Help patient on and off the table 

  • Open procedure kit, including medicines 

  • Assist physician draw-up medications 

  • Move C-Arm as needed and save images  

  • Ensure sterility at all times 

  • Monitor and supply the pre-operative areas for patient OR attire, extra linens (i.e. sheets, pillow cases, warm blankets) and other needed items for patient use. 

  • Greet designated patients, using customer-friendly approach, pre-operatively and provide assistance with the admitting process under the direction of the Pre-operative Registered Nurse and communicating with the Pre-operative Registered Nurse at all times. 

  • Provide assistance with continuous patient flow by providing pre-operative area with clean made-up stretchers and/or moveable recliners, as necessary. 

  • Communicate pertinent general information to nursing staff as indicated (i.e. surgeon and/or anesthesia arrival, etc.). 

  • Assist PACU staff by retrieving nourishment for patients (i.e. crackers, cookies, soft drinks, etc.) at appropriate times under the direct supervision and instruction of the staff Registered Nurse.

  • May assist patients with changing into street clothes prior to discharge, upon discretion of the PACU staff Registered Nurse. 

  • Assist with patient transport via wheelchair upon discharge from PACU and upon supervision of the Registered Nurse. 

  • Provide assistance in putting medical supplies away in both general and sterile storage areas. 

  • Assist with removal of dirty linens, placing trash in appropriate receptacles, straighten PACU patient care areas, restock supplies as needed, clean stretchers with facility-approved agent and remake with clean linens after each use. 

  • Provide the Circulating Nurse assistance with transporting patients from pre-op to the OR and from the OR to PACU, as directed. 

  • Assist with OR room turnovers by mopping floor with facility-approved agent, wiping appropriate horizontal surfaces, and removing both clean and contaminated linens and waste, as needed, after patient leaves the OR and is taken to PACU. 

  • Run errands to various locations (i.e. hospital, lab, pharmacy, OR) as instructed per Clinical Director and/or Administrator. 

  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. 

  • Assist in the business office with scheduling appointments, patient registration, medical record assembly and telephone coverage.  

  • Conduct job tasks with efficiency and professionalism. 

  • Maintain positive interpersonal communications between staff. 

  • Greet surgical patients and their family members on the day of surgery, confirm all personal and insurance information with the patient.  

  • Enter demographic information in the computer software system. 

  • Answer incoming phone calls and directing calls to the appropriate individuals. 

  • Create the surgical record and identification wristband. 

  • Manage daily surgical schedule with ONS staff and Nurse Manager to assure proper order of cases. 

  • Enter future surgical cases are accurately reflected in the computer system sent by the physician’s office. 

  • Coordinate with patients via phone and other electronic media prior to the day of service, the collection of monies due on day of surgery, and documenting these transactions in the billing system. 

  • Work closely with the administrator on medical staff credentialing packages, administrative tasks, etc. 

  • Additional tasks as assigned. 

Qualifications

Who you are:

Qualifications: 

  • High School diploma or GED. 

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program is required from an accredited school.  

  • Current BCLS

  • Previous work experience in an acute-care facility or long-term setting preferred. 

  • Knowledge of computer tasks and programs (Microsoft word and excel). 

  • Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position. 

  • Intermittent physical mobility/activity including walking, standing, sitting, light lifting, pulling or pushing of carts, equipment, etc.  Must be able to bend body downward at the waist; be able to kneel.
