Position Requirements
The Certified Medical Assistant (MA) functions in a clinical and administrative support role to assist the healthcare professional to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services. The MA works under the supervision and direction of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. The MA reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Minimum: Certified/Registered Medical Assistant, Paramedic. Must maintain license/certification.
Work Experience:
Minimum: One-year recent, relevant experience
Preferred: Demonstrated knowledge of surgical asepsis, Universal Precautions, MDPH, and OSHA standards
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Skills
- Escort patients to exam rooms, collect patient medical history, vital signs, medication dosage, and frequency, and patient allergens, and document all information in the patient's chart
- Secures patient information and maintains patient confidentiality by completing and safeguarding
- Medical records
- Disinfects, and cleans treatment rooms following patient examinations/procedures per office protocol
- Monitor patient response to treatment and report any unusual conditions to the physician.
- Complete orders and authorize prescription refills
- Collect urine drug screens and complete the order
- Explain treatment procedures to patients, obtain consent for treatment
- Schedule appointments and complete orders per EMR
- Administer medications as directed by the physician
- Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies; Properly dispose of contaminated supplies
- Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls
- Create value by working together with mutual respect and trust within and across our network at every level appreciating individual differences
- Provide safe patient care
- Report facts with accuracy, follow instructions, and complete assignments independently
- Collect patient assessment data about the physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and learning needs of the patient utilizing effective communication skills
- Provide patient care, direct and indirect, under the supervision of the RN/LPN and by the practice standards.
- Follow appropriate standards, policies, and procedures to provide optimal patient care
- Perform efficiently in emergencies following established standards, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events
- Facilitate effective working relationships/communications with all members of the health team to promote a consistent and efficient continuum of patient care.

- Demonstrated adherence to following aseptic technique; complies with universal/standard precautions; bagging and disposing of soiled linen and medical waste; replacing full sharps containers; cleaning equipment between patients use, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

- Independently mobile
- Approximately 80% of time spent standing/walking
- Moderate to heavy computer use
- Periodic heavy physical exertion
- Ability to lift to 60 pounds
- Frequent bending, kneeling, overhead lifting, pushing, and pulling
- Ability to wear a lead apron
- Auditory and visual skills
