Position Summary:
Under the general direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing the Medical Assistant is responsible for providing direct care services to the patients of Community Health & Wellness Center. The Medical Assistant also maintains a safe and efficient working and treatment environment per organizational policies, procedures, and best practices; communicates effectively with the treatment team to ensure safe, quality care is provided to all patients. The Medical Assistant is an integral part of the interdisciplinary patient care team.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities: The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care for patients from birth-adulthood including vital signs, collection of specimens, performing screenings, data collection, EKGs, and assisting with procedures as needed. This role is also responsible for completing pre-visit planning and participating in daily pre-visit rounding with the assigned provider. Community health opportunities for this role include assisting providers on home visits or out to community health partners on the mobile medical outreach vehicle, or in one of our School Based Health Centers. The Medical Assistant will complete all required learning in the online health learning system as well as attend annual clinical competencies.

Job Qualifications/Requirements:
1.) Works as part of patient-care team in conjunction with physicians, APRNs, nurses, PARs, CHWs and other staff.
2.) Obtains patient vital signs, including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse respirations and temperature when appropriate.
3.) Maintains good relations and fosters effective public therapeutic relations with patients, medical staff, and other medical providers.
4.) Ensures accurate maintenance of patients’ electronic medical records.
5.) Ensures patient confidentiality.
6.) Maintains established policies and procedures, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
7.) Assists in pre-planning for patient visits, looking up patient documentation from outside sources and assuring documentation in the chart, i.e. Epic
8.) Assists providers with procedures as needed.
9.) Prepares exam rooms with appropriate instruments and supplies and
keeps rooms clean.
10.) Performs electrocardiogram and POC testing when ordered by provider.
11.) Collects specimens as directed and sends them to the appropriate laboratory.
12.) Charts results of various tests in patient’s medical record.
13.) Answers patient’s inquiries concerning test orders.
14.) Performs quality control procedures.
15.) Uses appropriate safety procedures for handling, storage, and disposal of
biohazard waste.
16.) Responds to emergency situations.
17.) Prioritizes work and provides prompt and efficient service.
18.) Maintains and cares for office and clinical equipment and supplies.
19.) Attends educational updates.
20.) Maintains current CPR certification.
21.) Performs all other related duties as assigned.
22.) Community outreach to promote CHWC.
23.) Assists with Prior Authorizations.
