Job Summary of Medical Assistant:
Under general supervision of the Practice Supervisor/Manager in an outpatient clinical setting, the Medical Assistantprovides initial patient triage, registration, patient intake services, assists with direct patient care, and performs specialized medical procedures of a routine nature, as dictated by established clinical protocol. Performs the clerical duties and facilitates the smooth functioning of the patient care flow.
Medical Assistant Responsibilities
- Assists with direct patient care procedures and related tasks; checks in patients, assists in obtaining patient histories, takes vital signs, prepares charts, and assists with medical examinations.
- Accurately transcribes physicians' orders, completes all necessary forms, requisitions, and communications required to implement orders.
- Schedules and monitors patient appointments; may coordinate routine office activities and administrative functions in support of unit activities.
- Performs routine specialized procedures, which could include sterile dressing changes under established protocols.
- Maintains stocks of medicines and medical supplies as necessary.
- Assists with orientation of other clerical personnel to the department.
- Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues within established parameters.
Requirements
Education for Medical Assistant:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent within 3 months of hire required.
- Successful completion of CMA or CNA Program preferred.
- Completion of a Medical Terminology course preferred.
Experience
- Prior computer experience required.
- One to three years experience in clinical position preferred.
- One to three years experience as a nursing or Medical Assistant or in a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in a hospital environment preferred.
