Responsible for receiving patients, determines their needs and directs them accordingly. Performs optimal ambulatory health care to patients; stocks and maintains exam rooms and nurse’s stations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist provider with planning and managing patient care according to each patient’s needs.
- Interview patients and records their medical history and physical condition.
- Obtain patient vital signs, including pulse, blood pressure, temperature, respiration and pain level.
- Review medical charts.
- Communicate with patients and their families in a professional manner.
- Perform standard diagnostic procedures including EKG tracings.
- Perform in office testing, such as but not limited to, HgA1c, Flu, Strep, Lipids, Glucose, and Urinalysis.
- Perform venipuncture according to certification guidelines.
- Collect and prepare specimens for lab courier pickup.
- Provide wound care adhering to strict infection control measures.
- Prepare and administer medications including injections as ordered by the provider.
- Maintain medical supplies inventory and performing preventive maintenance to keep medical equipment operating.
- Schedule procedures/imaging; subsequently verifying scheduled times with patients; Additionally, will complete chart preparation including pre-admission and consent form completion.
- Complete prior authorizations and pre-certifications.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards of care, infection control measure, and complying with legal regulations, including HIPPA.
- Keep supplies readily available by maintaining stock inventory, notifying manager to reorder supplies and verifying receipt of incoming supplies. Adequately stock and maintain exam rooms and nurses's stations.
- Serve and protect the practice by adhering to professional standards; facility policies and procedures; and federal, state, and local requirements.
- Answer phone and return calls in a timely manner
- Perform any other services/duties as deemed reasonable by Providers or Manager within the Medical Assistant's scope of practice.
Education: Vocational/Technical degree in Medical Assistant or related field required.
Certification/License: Certified Medical Assistant required. CPR required.
