Medical Assistant
A primary care practice is hiring a full-time Medical Assistant to join our Coral Springs, FL office.
Essential job duties include both clinical and non-clinical / administrative tasks:
Clinical tasks:
- Performs patient intake including measuring and documenting patient vital signs, patient interview, and medical history in the EMR.
- Independently performs phlebotomy; collects blood and other lab specimens; performs basic in-house lab tests (urine, flu, etc.), prepares samples for send out, and schedules pick-up with vendors.
- Assists physicians with routine exams and in-office procedures such as EKGs and pulmonary function tests.
- Documents and communicates patient needs to the Primary Care Physician (PCP)
- Prepares patients for examinations and performs routine screening tests; assists physician with exams; explains treatment procedures and physicians' instructions to patient.
- Prepares and administers medications; changes dressings, applies bandages, first aid procedures; uses CPR skills when necessary, all under physician supervision.
- Manages patient flow in exam rooms; cleans and prepares exam rooms for physicians and patients.
- Checks clinical inbox and e-fax for patient refill requests, consult notes, patient questions/requests, and takes appropriate actions.
- Administers injections and supports physician medication dispensing.
- Manages, maintains, and updates medical supply inventory, equipment, stocks and sterilizes instruments.
- Performs accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
- Provides specialist referrals and submits prior authorization requests in Availity or payer portals as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.
Non-clinical / administrative tasks:
- Greets and provides customer services to patients as they arrive at the clinic.
- Answers patient phone calls, helps patients with administrative tasks, and routes clinical messages as appropriate.
- Schedules and reschedules patient appointments in Athena.
- Completes patient registration, ensures check-in paperwork is completed electronically, collects payment from patients.
- Manages pre-appointment check-in dashboard and ensures patients have filled out pre-appointment forms and consents electronically prior to arrival.
- Verifies insurance on upcoming appointments and resolving any insurance verification issues.
- Works eligibility and phone list in EMR to update what each patients co-pay, co-insurance, and deductible is up to date at least one day in advance of appointments.
- Calls patients to confirm appointments one day prior.
- Other administrative tasks as assigned.
Qualifications for our ideal candidate:
- High school diploma or GED
- Certified Medical Assistant (preferred)
- BLS certified
- 2+ years of primary care or urgent care Medical Assistant experience (required)
- Phlebotomy skills / experience (required)
- Technologically savvy and able to learn and work in multiple tech platforms EMR, patient digital check-in system, and other systems like Availity
- Experience with Athena Electronic Medical Record or ability / willingness to learn AthenaOne EMR
- Fluent in Spanish (preferred)
- Friendly and collaborative team player with excellent communication skills, who works well with others and is willing to always pitch in to ensure a smooth office workflow.
- Self-directed; must be able to independently prioritize tasks based on urgency and manage their time to meet both back office and front office needs.
- Highly motivated to excel and extremely detail oriented.
Schedule:
- Monday – Thursday 8 AM – 5 PM and Friday 8 AM – 12 PM
- Interest in eventually transitioning to working three-twelve hours shifts in the future.
