POSITION SUMMARY:
In this position the Medical Assistant performs administrative and clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include maintaining medication records, assessing patient flow for their physician to modify schedules if necessary. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and assisting in patient procedures as directed by a physician; but within the scope of practice. The Medical Assistant reinforces and adheres to the core values of the company in order to achieve the mission and vision.

Essential Functions Statement(s):
- Interviews patients to obtain medical information and measures their vital signs, weight, and height.
- Shows patients to examination rooms and prepares them for the physician.
- Records patients' medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records.
- Helps physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing other tasks in order to assist the physician.
- Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat, clean and stocked with supplies.
- Cleans and sterilizes equipment or instruments and properly disposes of contaminated supplies.
- Greets and electronically logs in patients arriving to the clinic.
- Notifies physicians when patients are ready for their consult.
- Performs general office duties and completes forms.
- Notifies patients of visit delays.
- Performs routine waived laboratory tests and sample analysis.
- Performs phlebotomy duties, as needed.
- Understands and follows all safety policies and procedures.
- Makes changes to active medication list per patient, prior to the patient visit.
- Moves patients between departments and accurately and efficiently tracks to assure good communication.
- Checks in patients and visitors to the facility in compliance with COVID and NMCC regulatory guidelines and security requirements including but not limited to: Taking temperatures of all individuals coming into the clinic, asking the appropriate questions regarding travel and COVID symptoms.
- Employee must wear appropriate COVID precautionary attire.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Education and Experience:
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
- Six months to one year of related experience
- 6 months to 1 year directly related experience to include 3 months practicum gained in a clinical, hospital, or laboratory setting.
Computer Skills:
- Basic computer skills, EMR and related systems
Certificates & Licenses:
- BBP and Biohazard annual safety training
- Current CPR certificate
- All laboratory meetings required
