DESCRIPTION:
The Medical Assistant offers clinical and medical office support to Physicians, Residents and RN’s for the Ophthalmology Department. This individual assists in patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. They ensure all open lines of communication between patients, staff and physicians with demonstrated professionalism, efficiency and confidentiality. They act as a liaison between patients and providers to address and/or resolve problems, inquiries and concerns including test results and prescription renewals. They prepare patients/rooms for physical examinations; interview patients to obtain medical histories; explain treatment procedures; perform diagnostic testing and assist providers during procedures as needed. They perform all duties in a manner, which promotes team concepts and reflects RWJ Barnabas HealthCare Systems philosophy.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
Certification as a Medical Assistant from an approved school or two years of experience working as a Medical Assistant.
Training Experience
Customer Service experience preferred
Type 30 – 40 wpm
Possess proficient computer skills
2 years of relevant medical office experience is desirable
Effective interpersonal and communications skills required
Excellent telephone etiquette
Proficient in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines
Must be able to adapt to a growing and changing environment
