General Summary: A non-exempt position responsible for providing care and guidance to patients so they can fully utilize and benefit from the practice’s clinical services. In addition to assisting providers with daily clinical, clerical, and organizational tasks.
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Diploma from an accredited Medical Assisting program
- Certification from AAMA preferred
- Basic Life Support Certification
- CPR Certified

Knowledge:
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of healthcare systems
- Knowledge of infectious disease management, control and safety
Skill:
- Skill in using medical equipment, supplies and materials
- Skilled multi-tasker
- Skill in preforming mathematical calculations for drug dosages
Ability:
- Ability to read and follow written and oral medical orders
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and diverse patient population
- Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, clinicians, supervisors, and co-workers
Essential Job Functions:
- Reviews provider and patient schedules to prepare for the day, makes changes with approval and organizes patient flow.
- Schedules patient appointments as needed and verifies patient insurance coverage.
- Performs screening on patient as designated by provider, rooms patient and completes patient history and vital signs.
- Answers phone and email in a timely manner
- Replies to all patient telephone encounters, messages, referrals, and other patient and provider communication in a timely manner
- Prepares and cleans exam rooms before and after patient appointments, including processing biohazard waste.
- Ensures exam rooms are fully stocked with supplies, necessary equipment, and educational materials
- Helps educate patients and families regarding disease management and provides all educational materials as instructed by provider.
- Obtains lab and X-ray reports, and hospital notes, updates and manages patient charts-including medical records.
- Verifies prescriptions with patients centered on provider orders.
