Medical Assistant
Summary:
The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physicians, PA, or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care, and procedures. They are responsible for ensuring the efficient functioning of the medical office or facility, managing patient interactions, and maintaining accurate medical records. This role plays a key part in providing a positive and organized experience for patients and healthcare providers.
Essential Job Functions:
- Prepares the examination room. Escorts patients into the room. Cleans examination room when the exam is complete.
- Maintains efficient patient flow.
- Ensures proper preparation and pertinent information needed for patient visits
- Communicates & provides care consistent with the age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of the patient.
- Answer the telephone in an appropriate manner. Directs calls and/or takes accurate messages.
- Schedules appointments accurately and appropriately according to departmental guidelines.
- Consistently and accurately maintains supplies and stocks examination rooms with all necessary supplies.
- Reconciles encounters daily and accurately, according to policy guidelines.
- Effectively communicates problems, concerns, or issues to the Supervisor and/or Manager appropriately and promptly.
- Understands and performs within the scope of practice.
- Obtains vital signs: BP, temp, pulse, height & weight accurately and completely as required.
- Documents appropriately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Reviews and updates patient medical history accurately. Appropriately enters orders.
- Demonstrates an understanding of prescription control and prescription refill procedures.
- Employs appropriate and timely use of tasking in EHR.
- Provides referrals and/or consult orders appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Appropriately adheres to universal safety precautions and disposal of medical waste.
- Maintains proficiency with department specific equipment, troubleshooting, and reports malfunctions promptly.
- Facilitates transition of care to Urgent care/Hospital.
- Demonstrates flexibility with various work schedules.
- Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned.
- Offer support and assistance to patients, addressing their questions, concerns, and needs.
- Provide scribing services as needed, training provided.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, and maintain confidentiality of patient information.

Physical Job Requirements:

Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements:
- High School Graduate/GED / Equivalent Work or Vocational / Technical School / Diploma, required. Associate Degree preferred.
- 0-1 year related work experience, required. 1-2 years related work experience, preferred.
- Medical Assistant certification, preferred, not required.
- Proficiency in medical terminology.
- Knowledge of healthcare software and electronic health records (EHR) systems. Specifically EClinicalWorks, EPIC
- Strong computer and data entry skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Customer service-oriented mindset.
- Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, required
- Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner, required
- Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
