Reporting Relationships
This position directly reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and does not supervise.
About the Role
We are seeking a Mechanic Tech to be a part of the Maintenance team based in Charlotte, NC. The Mechanic Tech is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, mechanical repairs, and troubleshooting of production equipment.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Ability to troubleshoot, and maintain typical mechanical drive systems (brakes, clutches, couplings, bearings, belts, chains, gears, sprockets, etc.)
- Strength in one or more of the following is highly preferred: Welding, Machine Shop, Optical Alignment, and Proper Rigging Techniques.
- Knowledge of small centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, piping layouts, and polymer extrusion, preferred
- Experience with predictive techniques such as infrared and ultrasonic are preferred
- Able to troubleshoot, and maintain typical mechanical drive systems (brakes, clutches, couplings, bearings, belts, chains, gears, sprockets, etc.) Troubleshooting pneumatic systems is required.
- Lubrication Practices
- Able to perform precision alignments and installations.
- Experience and knowledge of electrical systems a plus
- Must obtain a PIV license.
Expectations
- Follow department guidelines and Standard Operating Procedure work instructions for equipment repair of plastic film processing equipment, specifically extrusion line cleanings, preventative Maintenance & other equipment maintenance
- Properly complete and submit all paperwork associated with equipment maintenance and safety protocols
- Perform minor modifications to equipment to eliminate the root cause of the mechanical problems.
- Diagnose equipment issues & assist in the diagnosis of process-related problems through collaborative teamwork with Engineering & Operations staff
- Perform minor fabrication and machine work, i.e. welding, milling machine, lathe, and drill press
- Support new equipment installations
- Train other maintenance personnel on mechanical systems and personal areas of expertise
- Work collaboratively with all maintenance and manufacturing personnel; lead and participate in cross-functional teams
- Follow all Celgard safety guidelines and procedures, plan safety into projects and tasks
- Must be able to work at heights up to 30 feet, lift and carry up to 30 lbs., climb ladders, bend and twist in order to reach remote equipment
- Operate equipment such as forklifts, portable hoists, cherry picker, one-man lift, etc.
- Use a computer to update mechanical procedures
- Flexibility to carry a pager/cell phone for coverage and site-wide communication. Also willing to work a night shift schedule as needed
- Troubleshooting pneumatic systems is required.
- Proficiency with computers and computer applications (MS Office, Word, Excel)
Work Schedule
- Tuesday- Friday, 6 A.M. 4 P.M.
- Willingness to work overtime or night shift schedule if needed.
Working Conditions
This position is in a manufacturing plant setting that would require working in a production environment around chemicals. Work will require standing and walking for 80% of the time. You may be required to lift up to 35 pounds and/or push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Celgard manufacturing sites are IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 certified.
Candidate Requirements
Education:
Required
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Associate degree or diploma in Mechanical Technology preferred.
Professional Experience:
- 5+ years' experience in an industrial environment performing mechanical maintenance required.
- Formal industrial maintenance training preferred.
- Mechanical troubleshooting experience preferred.
