Requirements / Qualifications
BASIC FUNCTION: Plan, inspect, coordinate and supervise the maintenance, repair and modernization of building mechanical, electrical, fire alarm, communication and plumbing systems; train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE OF: Building maintenance and mechanical system repair, operation and installation. Principles and theory of heating and air conditioning systems and the fundamentals of electricity and pneumatics. Building codes, fire, health and safety standards related to the mechanical trades. Applicable sections of the Refrigerant and Recovery Act. OSHA regulations. Requirements of maintaining buildings and facilities in good repair. Proper methods, materials, tools, terminology and equipment used in the building maintenance trades. Materials, methods and tools used in the operation and repair of Mechanical Systems. Methods and practices used in receiving, storing, disbursing and delivering supplies and equipment. Basic budget preparation and control. District organization, operations, policies and objectives. Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities. Recordkeeping and documentation relative to fire systems and emergency lighting systems.
ABILITY TO: Accurately interpret architectural drawings, blueprints and schematics. Make mathematical computations and time and materials estimates. Train, supervise and evaluate personnel. Develop and enforce safe work standards and high quality levels of service. Order parts and supplies according to established guidelines. Maintain records and prepare reports. Determine priorities and schedule work effectively and efficiently. Inspect facilities for maintenance and repair needs and fire, safety and health hazards. Allocate resources and participate in budget development. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by completion of an apprenticeship program in one or more of the maintenance trades and five years progressively responsible experience in installation and operation of plant Mechanical Systems such as heating and air conditioning, electrical and plumbing systems.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

- Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree or Higher Education Degree
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS / CERTIFICATES:
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License. The successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment physical examination. Cost of the exam will be borne by the District. A pre-employment drug screening will also be administered. If selected for the position, out-of-district applicants must be T.B. tested and fingerprinted. A practical skills test may be administered at the time of interview.
