Mechanical Support Specialist 1

Job Summary:
Provides analysis and technical support to Fike's distributors for the design, application and operation of Fike's fire suppression systems. Guides and instructs Fike's distributors on the various fire products system design and installation. Evaluates distributor problem situations and perform troubleshooting, and identification of misapplication of Fike products and/or component deficiencies for resolution. Assists lead instructor with on-site, as well as on-line, product training classes for Fike's distributors. Works within Sales Force and the Fike Learning Management System to assists distributors with portal access, account set-up, class registration, exam/testing, etc. Provides guidance on the use of various agent flow calculation software packages. The complexity of the work at this level requires initiative, strong communication skills and independent judgment.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provides direction, analysis and technical support to domestic and international distribution in the areas of suppression system analysis, design and application.
  • Provides technical information and support to architects, engineers and other authorities within the jurisdiction as well as end users.
  • Assists the Manager regularly in providing technical support as it relates to: technical product support, application/design support, product training support, system trouble shooting and design support to direct sales.
  • Evaluates system design drawings and documentation provided to Fike by distribution. Provides design assistance and direction in the area of Industrial fire suppression systems in accordance with Fike design manuals, listing agency approvals, as well as National Codes.
  • Sets up new user accounts within the Fike learning management system.
  • Sets up classes for distributor training within the Fike learning management system utilizing new and existing training course material.
  • Interfaces with other departments within Fike, including Engineering, Customer Service, Manufacturing, Product Management and Outside Sales.
  • Provides customer/technical service in accordance with company policies, procedures, and ISO9001 requirements.
  • Provides supervisor with departmental goals, including accessing problems, and offering solutions.
  • Assists with on-site, as well as on-line training classes for domestic and international distribution, focused on the analysis of hazards, designs of systems, application of appropriate products, and the use of Fike Computer Flow Calculation Software Programs.
  • Travels to various customer facilities when required for the purpose of conducting product training or system/application evaluation.
  • Maintains product knowledge by attending various in-house product review and/or new product training sessions.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the environment is general office work and the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, hear, see, sit and use hands. Occasional travel, both domestic and international, might be required.
Job Qualifications:
REQUIRED: Associate's degree in mechanical technology, or related engineering field with an emphasis on mechanical / manufacturing processes, with 1+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic knowledge of engineering principles, concepts, practices and theories. Strong command of basic computer and math skills. Effective communication, interpersonal and listening skills.
PREFERRED: Experience or education in the field of fire protection, including sprinkler systems and/or other related special hazard protection systems. Prior experience delivering presentations or training classes. Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft Windows and Office Suite. Prior experience with on-line training and learning management systems.
