The Mechanical Reliability Engineer provides technical support to the Operations teams for renewable power generation projects (Wind, Solar, Battery Storage). This position works directly with the Asset Managers, Operations and Maintenance personnel, Project Managers and fellow Reliability Engineering teams to identify, quantify, investigate, report on and correct the root causes of sub-optimal fleet performance and reliability. This role will support all of the renewables assets in the Americas from the end of construction to decommissioning with effort on Operational success and needed repair at existing project sites.

As RWE Renewables is growing in terms of managed assets as the existing fleet ages, the position supports the growing asset base and growing maintenance needs which often come with age.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in Technical Due Diligences (TDD), which will ensure that operational insights are effectively captured
  • Enable seamless knowledge transfer
  • Guarantee optimal performance for new projects immediately from inception
  • Perform (and/or manage third party consultants) in conducting root cause analyses to determine primary reasons for major failures and find solutions for them that impact plant operations
  • Mentor and train other engineers to improve competence and performance of the team
  • Develop component specifications for critical parts to ensure their reliability
  • Develop measurements and KPI’s to drive the team’s performance on project delivery and accuracy
  • Allocate time for R&D efforts focused on future tools and technologies
  • Lead initiatives to develop engineering practices and processes that improve engineering quality, productivity, and results.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university
  • Advanced degree preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ relevant mechanical engineering experience

JOB SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Working knowledge of equipment utilized in the renewable energy sector inclusive of utility scale wind turbines, solar panels, battery systems, and inverters
  • Demonstrated experience leading root cause analyses and corrective action problem-solving for mechanical components
  • Demonstrated experience developing component or repair specifications and working with suppliers to qualify mechanical components for purchase or repair
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to manage customer relationships
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
  • Strong leadership and communication, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables
  • Ability to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a team
  • Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
  • Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds
  • Responds well to direction, is easy to challenge and develop, and is coachable
  • Is detail-oriented, has strong business acumen, and a sound understanding of business concepts

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE office and field locations.  The employee must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time.

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in New York City is $118,000 - $177,000 . The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
