TITLE: Mechanical Project Engineer for New Equipment Installations

· 1 year contract with good possibility of extension

INTRODUCTION:

AB Consulting GSS is a supplier of experienced engineering talent to manufacturing companies. A major industrial client is modernizing its existing facility in Lawton, OK.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Mechanical Project Engineer will work in a plant environment under the direction of the client’s chief engineer on site. He/she will oversee the removal of old process equipment and the setting, interconnection, and commissioning of new equipment. The Engineer will coordinate contractor activities, motivate them to complete the work on time, on budget, and according to spec, process scope changes, communicate with others, conduct floor-level meetings, and resolve technical questions. In many cases OEM engineer(s) will also be on site to provide startup support. Standard working time will be 5 days per week with occasional weekend work while contractors are on site.

LOCATION: Lawton, OK

CONTRACT TYPE: 1099 Independent Contractor

START DATE: October 23th, 2023

DURATION: 1 year contract with possibility of extension

PAYMENT: The pay will be quite good, commensurate with your experience.

For out-of-towners: Per diem: $54/day for any day that you are in the city of work + $35/day for any days that you're on home leave; Relocation bonus: one-time fee of $4,600 USD; and Home leaves: flights or mileage for a “long weekend” home leave trip per month will be reimbursed at cost.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (4 years) in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, or a technical degree with solid experience managing industrial projects.
  • A minimum of 3 years of capital project experience involving the mechanical setting and connection of new process equipment.
  • Familiarity with the requirements for setting and alignment of medium to heavy manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities.
  • Capital budgeting and forecasting experience.
  • Familiarity with Gantt chart scheduling and software, as well as identification and mitigation of schedule risks.
  • Experience and ability to plan and coordinate contractor activities and assess the quality of their work.
  • Good understanding of safe industrial work practices (control of hazardous energy, PPE, hot work, high work, permitting, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings: Equipment assembly and detail drawings; Process piping schematics and flow diagrams; Oil hydraulic diagrams
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD 2D drafting software.
  • Ability to motivate and gain the respect and cooperation of others.
  • Able to demonstrate effective teamwork, maintain a professional demeanor, and foster positive relationships inside and outside the team.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan the work, ensure that contractors install the equipment safely, to specification, on time, and on-budget.
  • Manage risks, anticipate outcomes, and solve problems before they occur.
  • Understand, lead, and enforce contractor safety requirements.
  • Thoroughly understand facilities and equipment technical details, drawings, specs, installation instructions, and performance metrics.
  • Check key deliverables such as scope of supply, quality, workmanship, and functionality to ensure that systems are ready for use.
  • Effectively manage daily communications between the contractor, plant personnel, customer engineers, OEM engineers, and others to coordinate work and resolve issues.
  • Write progress reports and issue meeting notes.
  • Understand the contract documents, budget estimate, job scope, bid packages, and schedule. Measure progress and approve contractor invoices and change requests.
  • Inspect and receive new parts and equipment.
  • Participate in the process sign-off for the equipment and manage punch lists.
  • Assist with maintenance and operator training as needed.
  • Collect and maintain “as-built” design information.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $550.00 - $650.00 per day

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
