Position summary: Applies standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and codes.

Essential functions and responsibilities

  • Review contract construction packages and recommend enhancement and comment on any compliance issues
  • Coordinate the work with all contractors and confirm that program deliverables conform with the technical specifications and respective contract provision
  • Resolve and effectively communicate construction issues with the Construction Team Leader in a timely manner to maintain program on schedule and budget
  • Review contractual documents and contract modifications to determine scope of work and scope changes. Escalate concerns to the Construction Manager
  • Provide technical and cost analysis support. Review requests for changes submitted by the construction contractors and make recommendations for acceptance
  • Assist the Program Manager with the closeout of construction contracts
  • Report on contractor progress daily and provide written details of any non conformance issues
  • Work schedule varies according to job assignments and/or contractor schedules, to include night work, weekends, and holidays
  • Inspect products using precision measuring tools (calipers, thread gages, go, no-go gages etc.)
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports
  • Perform incoming quality inspection on electro/mechanical parts in accordance with engineering blueprint drawings and Mil-Standard requirements
  • Read and interpret vendor certifications for completeness and accuracy in accordance with imposed quality clauses
  • Perform complex inspection activities, to assess conformance of products to the design as defined by the engineering drawings
  • Inspect products, components, subassemblies, and/or systems to ensure conformance to requirements
  • Generate non-conforming material reports (NMRs)
  • Must be able to interpret manufacturing work and quality inspection instructions
  • Prepares product verification documentation in accordance with departmental procedure
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel based software
  • Measure dimensions and verify ongoing and completed work to ensure compliance to plans and codes.
  • Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance of plans, contract documents, specifications and standards
  • Work on behalf of the Client to draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve construction related field issues
  • Gathers and maintains record documents
  • Makes field notes and computations
  • Interact with the general public, government agencies, contractors, sub-contractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries

Required Skills
  • Strong Computer proficiency
  • Active driver’s license

Required Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience)
  • 10+ years of Mechanical Inspection Experience at a medium to large commercial airport or large industrial facility
  • Client requested certifications
  • One of the below minimum credentials
    • Licensed Professional Engineer
    • Master Mechanical (HVACR) License
    • International Code Council (ICC) Certification in Relevant Mechanical field(s)

Preferred Experience

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Ability to act in an Owner's Agent/responsible in charge role

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
