Mechanical Engineer

Reel Power is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer in Houston, TX.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will create winches and other industrial equipment utilizing machine design, project management, and SolidWorks modeling skills. Projects range from modifications of existing designs to custom solutions for customer needs. Produce mechanical models, drawings, bill of material, and bill of operations packages. Provide industry-leading “total cost of ownership” to end-users by optimizing quality, cost-of-manufacturing, maintenance, ease-of-use, durability, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design large equipment for the marine, energy, and defense industries based on customer specifications. Equipment includes hawser winches, oceanographic winches, cable sheaves, IWOC reels, and subsea accumulators. Designs will involve complex, multiple-component assemblies with tight tolerances.
• Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, and controls, using SolidWorks
• Electric, hydraulic, and chain drive system design and schematic creation.
• Purchased component selection of bearings, electric and hydraulic motors, gear reducers, and hydraulic fittings to ensure conformance with performance specifications.
• Coordinate and consult with other team members to design, layout, or detail components and systems and resolve design problems.
• Create blueprints of frame weldments, sub-assemblies, and components for manufacture.

Job Qualifications:

• BS Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
• 4 - 6 years experience with machine design and drafting of machinery, preferably winches
• Proficient with SolidWorks modeling and creation of drawings, CSWA/CSWP preferred
