Job Description
Intermountain Electronics, Inc. (IE) is currently recruiting Mechanical Engineer Interns located in South Point, OH. IE is a leading provider of custom engineered and manufactured process and electrical systems to the mining, oil & gas, power/utility, and mission critical industries in North America. IE's turnkey products are generally mobile - mounted on skids or in portable e-houses. Our products include portable power/generators, substations, electrical control rooms (MCCs/VFDs/switchgear), water-flood/disposal buildings, compressor skids, metering equipment, LACT units, SWD's, and other products used in the energy, oil & gas, and mining sectors.
M.E. Interns will participate in the active design and build of various power distribution systems to support our varied customer base.
Essential Functions. Other duties may be assigned. Project Design
1. Assist in preparing preliminary and detailed design drawings using the Auto Cad, Solid Works, Solid Edge or similar engineering CAD software
2. Assist in reviewing customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
3. Use 3D modeling and 2D drawings to update current designs
4. Work with engineering team to help develop engineering design concepts for components and electromechanical assemblies that have tough requirements for size, precision, reliability and cost
5. Under direct supervision, read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports
6. Assist with program designed and developed sheet metal parts for laser cutting and bending
7. Assist with structural or mechanical analysis of manufactured equipment in compliance with AISC, IBC, and other applicable codes
8. Revise computer-aided designs and plans to comply with modified specifications made during actual construction
9. Attends PPR meetings

Experience and Skills
Skills/Qualifications:
- Enrolled in 3rd year and pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree field or 1+ year of Mechanical Engineering experience.
- Good administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency to achieve high quality results through continual attention to detail and anticipation of potential problems during the early planning and design stages.
- Proficiency in MSWord, Excel, Outlook required. Experience in AutoCAD (or similar) are pluses.
- Good troubleshooting and analysis skills. Ability to read, follow, and produce electronic schematics. Basic mechanical aptitude/experience.
- Good understanding of the relationship between product design and manufacturing. Understanding of general design documentation methods and processes.
- Ability to work successfully with a cross-functional team.
