POSITION SUMMARY
Requires application of engineering knowledge in planning and conducting assignments having scope for independent accomplishment and coordination of tasks. As necessary, modifies established guidelines, devises new approaches, applies existing criteria in new ways and draws conclusions from comparative situations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Analyze problems, organize investigations and determine specific design criteria.
- Use initiative and judgment to recognize the implications of experimental results on other problems and devise new approaches.
- Discuss projects and problems with senior specialists and colleagues to determine relative priorities and implications on work of others.
- Make recommendations for increased resources and special equipment.
- Make commitments on acceptance of projects, completion dates, resources and staff required to meet objectives.
- Knowledge of related disciplines/fields of engineering.
- Make decisions governed by general policy.
- Exercises initiative in adapting and applying procedures to address unusual situations and to resolve issues.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS PER JOB LEVEL
- Mechanical Engineer Intern – Junior or Senior in University/College; No experience required.
- Mechanical Engineer IV – Bachelor’s degree/Continuing education; No experience required.
- Mechanical Engineer III – Bachelor’s degree/Continuing education; 2 years’ experience required.
- Mechanical Engineer II – Bachelor’s degree/Continuing education; 4 years’ experience required.
- Mechanical Engineer I – Bachelor’s degree/Continuing education; 6 years’ experience required. FE license or 8 years’ experience needed.
