Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer 2 is responsible for the mechanical design, calculations, and documentation of assigned projects for the manufacture of modular steel control buildings, relay panels, and medium voltage switchgear.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products that can be efficiently and safely manufactured.
- Uses sound engineering judgement to ensure design work meets all required specifications.
- Direct and execute development, engineering, design, drafting, and documentation of control buildings, and the incorporation of relay panels, and switchgear, using in-house and outsourced resources.
- Read and understand all customer documentation provided: specifications, plan view drawings, site layouts, detail fabrication drawings, BOMs, etc.
- Collaborate with customers regarding specification/design questions and clarifications.
- Perform and/or audit engineering calculations for control building design: HVAC, lighting, energy compliance check, any others as needed.
- Specify or verify purchased or manufactured components needed to meet specifications and design calculations.
- Compile all information required for Structural Engineering Analysis and State Insignia approvals, and work with P. E.s and reviewing agencies to ensure compliance and certification.
- Create, edit, and approve Bill of Materials containing all purchased parts, fabricated parts and assemblies, selected hardware, with all necessary details to meet customer specification and Crown standards.
- Create, edit, and approve mechanical 2D and 3D fabrication and assembly drawings, including plan views, layouts, elevations, fabrication drawings, and detail views as needed.
- Assist Electrical Engineers in checking and auditing wiring diagrams and schematics, wire, cable, conduit and cable tray sizing, and verifying Electrical documentation against the BOM and mechanical drawings.
- Work with purchasing department and vendors to receive quotes and lead times of selected components.
- Manage, schedule, and track all Mechanical Engineering tasks and related assigned project work.
- Provide engineering support to production departments during all stages of manufacturing.
- Redline, revise, and release design changes and Engineering Change Notices as needed to the production team.
- Creates improvements and implements standardized designs and processes to increase efficiency in production. (lower cost and time, increase quality.)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD to create and edit 2D layout and assembly drawings that conform to ANSI standards, as well as other industry and internal drafting standards.
- Proficient in the use of SolidWorks to create 3D models and 2D fabrication and assembly drawings that conform to ANSI standards, as well as other industry and internal drafting standards.
- Ability to work in a hands-on engineering and manufacturing environment.
- Engineering knowledge of common materials and methods for fabrication.
- General understanding in mechanical and structural FEA.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate in team environments
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Experience/Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Architecture, or equivalent work experience required.
- At least 2-4 years of related work experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to traverse the production floor as needed.
