Summary
Work on unique products that are custom designed for special applications or highly modified standard machines. At this level incumbents can work independently on projects of greater difficulty. Ability to take parts from inception to completion using various hand tools.
Essential Functions
- Read drawings and engineering documents to determine component parts and assembly sequences of electromechanical units.
- Measure parts to determine tolerances, using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and verniers.
- Assemble electromechanical or hydraulic equipment to engineering standards.
- Position, align, and fasten units to assemblies, subassemblies, or frames, using hand tools and power tools for proper fit and assembly.
- Connect cables, wiring, and other electrical components according to specifications.
- Inspect, test, and adjust completed units to ensure that units meet specifications, tolerances, and customer order requirements.
- Mark products, workpieces, or equipment with identifying information.
- Operate small cranes to transport or position large parts.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus 5+ years' relevant industrial manufacturing experience.
Preferred
- Forklift and Crane Operation Certification
- OSHA-10 Certificate
Knowledge and Skill
- Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. Requires average knowledge of assembly techniques, and skills in pneumatics, hydraulics, and actuation.
- Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Ability to read and understand drawings, engineering documents, electrical schematics, and other manufacturing instructions.
- English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Quality Control Analysis - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
- Mathematical skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and the ability to apply concepts of business math to practical situations and dimensions to production.
