Job Description
The Mechanic is responsible for the operation of a comprehensive preventative maintenance and repair program. This program includes the repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. The Mechanic properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Feed Yard Manager. The Mechanic places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area.
Essential Functions
- Maintain a neat and organized shop area.
- Assist management with purchases of repair parts and replacement supplies.
- Meet all company and equipment related safety requirements.
- Report safety issues and concerns to management in a timely manner
- Ability to prioritize equipment repair and maintenance work.
- Keeps a complete set of records for equipment repairs, equipment conditions and preventative maintenance for all equipment.
- Ensure that all farm equipment inspections are completed thoroughly and consistently.
- Maintains a preventative maintenance program within budget on all equipment to avoid unnecessary downtime.
- Inspects, diagnoses and repairs equipment up to and including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components.
- Consistently communicate equipment issues and understand job assignments.
- Work in conjunction with the production/harvest teams to ensure that equipment is in good working order.
- Depending on workloads, weather/field conditions, staffing, etc., must be able to assist in different departments as instructed by Farm Management.
- Make repairs to irrigation systems such as center pivot top pipes, which includes welding components.
- Check equipment to make sure it is repaired, lubricated, and working properly.
- Perform preventive maintenance on field production equipment, including welding, changing bearings, replacing worn parts, lubricating equipment, moving tires, and installing tanks or weights on tractors, and prepping equipment for seasonal usage.
Physical Demands
- Be able to work in outdoor weather conditions.
- Be in constant communication with various team members.
- Carry or lift over 50 pounds
Required Education and Experience
- Certification from trade or technical school in maintenance repair preferred.
- 3+ years’ experience as equipment mechanic preferred.
- Working knowledge of light and heavy farm and delivery equipment preferred.
- Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses.
- Skilled in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools.
