Math Made Simple (MMS) tutors work one-on-one with students to help them understand and master the concepts behind various math topics. They may also assist students in preparing for standardized tests such as the ACT, GRE, TCAT, and the NCLEX.
MMS math tutors are specialist in our field that not only require knowledge of mathematics, patience, and strong communication skills but we are able to explain difficult concepts in ways that are easy to understand where others usually fail. MMS tutors have a deep understanding of the material they’re teaching and we are constantly looking for or creating new approaches to teaching our content.
MMS Tutor Job Duties
Our math tutors typically have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
- Providing one-on-one tutoring sessions to students in areas such as Basic Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and test prep
- Preparing lesson plans and teaching materials to ensure that lessons are effective and engaging for students
- Communicate with supervisors about student progress and answering any questions about tutoring services
- Observing students’ behavior during lessons and providing feedback to improve performance
- Help develop individualized plans for each student based on his or her specific needs
- Help students develop study skills such as time management and note taking
- Meet with students individually or in small groups to provide supplemental instruction in Math
- Help evaluate students’ strengths and weaknesses in Math and recommend appropriate coursework or tutoring sessions
- Providing feedback on student progress and offering additional assistance as needed
MMS Tutor Wages
Math tutors’ wages vary depending on their level of education, years of experience, and which type of math they are teaching. Wages range from $25 to $40 per hour.
Math Tutor Job Requirements
MMS math tutor typically have a combination of the following:
- Education: Minimum bachelor’s degree in education, Mathematics or a related field. Relevant coursework includes basic math, statistics, algebra.
- Training & Experience: MMS tutors receive on-the-job training from supervisors and management. This training may include learning the curriculum and teaching methods the tutoring center uses, as well as the computer and software programs we use.
- Certifications & Licenses: Although MMS does not require a teacher license to tutor it does influence the hourly wage.
Math Tutor Work Environment
Our hires will work in a variety of settings, including public schools, colleges and universities, and adult education centers. Our Math tutors will typically work with students on an individual basis, although they may also work with small groups of up to 5 students. Our tutors typically will work between the hours of 2:30pm and 5:30pm, Monday through Thursday, although we may occasionally also work on Saturdays from 8am to 12 noon or 9am to 1pm to accommodate students’ schedules.

Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
