Summary:
The Elementary Mathematics Coach collaborates with teachers to provide instructional support and pedagogical content knowledge for mathematics teaching and learning using the Massachusetts Frameworks and the NCTM Teaching Practices. In addition, coaches plan and facilitate district wide workshops, and prepare curriculum materials and assessments.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • Massachusetts DESE Elementary Certification with SEI endorsement or additional license in ESL
  • Master's Degree in Education
  • Three or more years of successful math teaching

Desired Qualifications:
  • DESE Licensure for Elementary math
  • Deep knowledge of the MA Curriculum Frameworks for Mathematics, including the content standards and standards for mathematical practice
  • Demonstrated ability to model effective math lessons (e.g. aligned to standards, balance of conceptual and procedural emphasis, integration of mathematical practices, differentiation planning based on data, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver workshops and seminars to adult learners that integrate mathematical content with pedagogy
  • Commitment to educational equity
  • Familiarity and genuine buy-in of NCTMs Principles to Actions and the eight Mathematics Teaching Practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with teachers in order to develop targeted lessons
  • Ability to use technology effectively to support data analysis and instruction
  • Knowledge and experience with assessment, analyzing student data and planning instruction based on data
  • Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues, organize tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • A working knowledge of current research, trends in best practices and resources related to district goals
  • Ability to work autonomously and make independent decisions
  • Good judgment, conflict resolution strategies and problem-solving skills
    *This position will start mid February and continue through the end of the school year*

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To):
District and school responsibilities:
  • Develop curriculum, instruction, intervention, and assessments;
  • Plan and facilitate district professional development in collaboration with other coaches/specialists;
  • Coach teachers on the implementation of district curriculum, focusing on new teachers and teachers new to a grade level;
  • Participate in grade-level PLCs regularly. PLC's look at student work together for a variety of purposes: norming student work, differentiating Tier I instruction and determining Tier 2 Interventions;
  • Facilitate the administration, recording, and analysis of universal assessments;
  • Oversee the implementation and monitor levels of usage of ST Math in all classrooms
  • Collaborate with teachers in developing goals for individual students and groups of students through intervention and progress monitoring;
  • Provide training and support for teachers and teaching assistants in the ELL and Special Education Departments in assessment, instruction, and intervention;
  • Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance is essential for supervision and instruction of the students
  • Responsible for implementing "other job-related duties" as needed

  • While performing the duties of this job the teacher is frequently required to kneel, stoop, bend, and crouch. The teacher is periodically required to stand; while talking and listening. The teacher is occasionally required to sit; walk; lift; or carry. Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function. Rarely absent or late unless the situation is of an emergency nature.
